Life with The Word and Bird Man – Clyde Kessler

Well, here I go again.  We are getting another computer tune up.  This amazing machine needs more attention than our cars do.  I wish it didn’t have to spend so much time in the shop, especially since the shop is also my home.

We have a great young friend to help us but it usually takes most of a day- so is this machine such a time saver or is it something we have to baby sit and burp all the time?  I just sold a framed print online so I guess I have a lot of nerve to complain, but I do get exasperated with our computer.  I better get to work since I won’t be able to most of tomorrow.

Yikes!

Blue Ridge Parkway Way Sirens

The Lorelei live in the pools of Ashville, NC and here is the Native America legend regarding their existence! They are said to live in pools of rapidly flowing water.

The Lorelei are sirens that appear to travelers that stop for a drink in the heat of the day.  They appear to be beautiful women.  It is said that soft music can be heard blending in with the sounds of the water.  Travelers see a beautiful woman beckoning to them.  When the traveler reaches out their hand to touch the lovely image, they are drawn into the water by cold slimy hands. A skull appears, a loud laugh, and then silence.

As I have said before, I think my husband is very good-looking. He was when we were young and he still is now.  He doesn’t share that opinion and is always making jokes about his appearance.

The latest one is that the mirrors have 911 on speed dial and they hit it whenever he looks at his reflection.  The cops are really getting tired of answering all the calls.

For among the finches of Daphne Major, natural selection is neither rare nor slow: it is taking place by the hour, and we can watch. In this dramatic story of groundbreaking scientific research, Jonathan Weiner follows these scientists as they watch Darwin’s finches and come up with a new understanding of life itself. The Beak of the Finch is an elegantly written and compelling masterpiece of theory and explication in the tradition of Stephen Jay Gould.

Staunton Theater Ghost Story

Yesterday I wrote about the little girl that haunts a Staunton Virginia theater.  There is a little more to the story and another story about a male ghost on the premises!

Sometimes rolls of coins would disappear and then show up in stacks and patterns in the projectionist room. It looked as though the ghost was playing with them. The girl seemed to be most active in the upper story and the projectionist room.

A tall man dressed in a Victorian suit has been seen in what was the orchestra pit.  The suit did not fit.  It was too tight across the shoulders. As I mentioned yesterday, the theater was originally an opera house.

I found this story online at Ghosts of America.

As always, The 40th Mount Rogers Naturalist Rally was a great success!  Now Blue Ridge Mountain lovers can look forward to next week’s Farm Days!   Clyde spent his early years on a farm and his father still has an extensive garden that we have enjoyed over the years!  No one grows corn like Herman Kessler!

The Blue Ridge Discovery Center is hosting Farm Days at Matthews Living History Farm in Independence VA!  Here is the address and a map can be found on the Blue Ridge Discovery Center website. The tour will include educational demonstrations and programs for kids at the farm museum!  Come on out for a great time!

Our Blacksburg Ghost Story near The Blue Ridge Parkway and a Gorilla…

Since I have been blogging about New River Valley Ghost stories lately I thought this painting would be a good one to put up.  I had no intentions of painting a ghost house but the dissolution of form in the warm and cool colors, in a way, gives the impression of an other-worldly place.

Our Short Blacksburg Ghost Story

I am a very level-headed person and extremely skeptical of anything that is considered to be supernatural.  I took a silly Big Bang test a while back to see which character I am like on the show, and, of course, it was Sheldon.  My husband says I remind him of Spock from Star Trek.

Anyway, having said all that, I must say I have had three strange experiences in my life that I cannot explain.

Here is one of them.

Years ago my husband and I needed to get a larger apartment at the complex we lived at in Blacksburg, VA.  The manager said F-67 was open and we grabbed it.  They were having a hard time renting it and we couldn’t see why.  They were all alike.

Shortly after we moved in we were resting on our bed when we heard, very clearly, a voice that seemed to be coming from the closet.  The word was Rachel in a strange voice.  It happened a few more times and we just ignored it.  We never heard it again.

The only logical explanation would be that someone that could throw their voice like a ventriloquist was outside and playing a trick on us.  We will never know!

This pond no longer exists.  It was at the Blacksburg Airport when my husband and I were first married.  We would walk out to it every Sunday afternoon.  That is such a pleasant memory.

Life with The Word and Bird Man – Clyde Kessler

I try very hard to avoid problems on the internet.  I know that people can copy a site and make it look like an official request for a phishing attempt.  I know that people will try to get money from me by claiming they want to buy a painting and I need to pay their private shipping company out of the excess money on the check they send me.  Of course, the check is phoney and I am out the shipping money.

I have never fallen for that one and never will.

I do download some sites that are designed to help me improve my art sales.  They look perfectly okay to me.

My husband is much more cautious than I am and he says I would download a gorilla and let it walk around the house!   I would not!  We already have enough monkeys around here.
