Three weeks without hot water and counting. I can’t believe it but Clyde found someone in Roanoke that has the same old solar system we have and he will work on it.  The only problem is he is quite ill and won’t be able to come for two weeks.  So we will be heating water on a stove for a lot longer than we would like to.

Oh well, smile and the world smiles with you.  Cry and you cry alone.

Anyway, I am real pleased to sell a framed print of the cover of Clyde’s book, Fiddling at Midnight’s Farmhouse to a great Kentucky patron!  Yes! That is a cheer up note and The Aquatic Center isn’t going anywhere so I can wash my hair there.

Life with The Word and Bird Man – Clyde Kessler

Now that the weather is finally changing, my hands are starting to turn into icicle holders.  The hands get cold but those fingers really are as much like icicles as fingers on a human can be. I don’t know why they get so cold.  I wear layers in the house.  If we adjust the heat to accommodate me, the other two will sweat big time. Clyde is the opposite.

Cute joke about cold people on the internet.  If you are cold, stand in a corner.  They are usually 90 degrees.  Sorry, I just love puns! Clyde said all he got from standing in the corner were the jeers from class mates.

  1. Oh my gosh 3 weeks without hot water b/c your solar system is broken! What a nightmare! They don’t tell you stories like these when they’re pushing solar panels on you.
That’s plenty of reason for me to continue my resistance to getting it. The recuperating cost has been the biggest barrier for us. 40+ years to get your money back is far too long for us. It’s not a good investment for the money.

Thankfully you have a gym or somewhere you can shower and wash your hair.

I feel your pain with cold fingers. I have Raynaud’s Syndrome. It’s awful. My fingers and toes lose all circulation with the slightest drop in temperature. It does me in my at night when out photographing and kills me! Hand-warmers, double gloves, nothing helps, but inside in a very warm environment. Toe warmers and my heavy boots with thick soles keep my toes, and feet warm. I just haven’t found a pair of gloves that will keep my fingers warm.
I’ve long said I need the gloves the astronauts wear in space to keep my fingers warm. I’m about ready to try battery operated warming gloves…the problem is they’re too thick fingered and operating my camera will be impossible, so I’d have to take one off to do that, but at least I could quickly put my hand back in the glove once done manipulating my camera settings.

    • I am sorry I have discouraged you from considering solar heating! It is great and inexpensive. Ours is just so old that it needs to be replaced by a new system.
The solar guy in Blacksburg sells energy back to the town with his solar house. I greatly recommend solar heating!

Yes, it is great that I can go swimming and then use the shower at the Aquatic Center. We don’t mind bird baths but I really can’t wash my hair that way.

I think I probably have Raynaud’s Syndrome, too. I think you have it much worse than me! I hope you can find something to help. This is not something a photographer should have.
