Blue Ridge Artist is Stepping Away from the Painting…

Blue Ridge Parkway Artist

I have completed the third stage of my current painting and now it is for sale as well as all sorts of prints!  It is always hard to decide when a painting is done.  I always lose something and gain something with each layer so I am so glad I decided to preserve the layers.

I may not have each layer but I can look at them online and maybe make a few more decisions on the work.  But, for now it is time to step away and let it live.  It is so easy to ruin a painting by expecting too much.

Pierre Bonnard would work on three at a time and then turn them to the wall so he wouldn’t get too caught up in them.

Anyway, here is the final painting!  Check it out!

  1. I wish there would be something to tell us it is finished…as for me it is the most difficult decision to make, sometimes I whish painting would be like drawing with a computer, make a layer and If you don’t like it, turn it off if you think it doesn’t bring more, or delete if you sure…:) , so I guess when we change something and it doesn’t turn out as good as we saw it…we get back to it and hope for the best…:) and the important thing is to learn when to stop…I think I’ve learned to draw and paint, to stop at the right time…not yet…

    • I agree! It is very hard. It used to drive me crazy and I destroyed a lot of paintings. Not anymore. They almost always look much better after some time has passed. I just have to say done and move on. I think we need to just keep smiling and keep working!

    • That is so true! Every color and texture is a musical note to me and getting them to work perfectly together is not possible. As I told my students, you will never get exactly what you want but if you work hard you will get close!

  2. Kendall, I love your artwork. So glad you stopped by Before Sundown so I could return the visit to your site. Favorites so far are Fairlawn Eve & Wildflower Rush. Wow…the colors are amazing. Look foward to more. Christine
