I am on the third layer of my latest Kendall Expressions painting!  I have added a lot of linear accents and some color modifications.  I have signed it  but I am not sure if I want to change a few more things.  It is always hard to know when it is done.  I never get exactly what I want but I do get close!

 Work in Progress

Life with The Word and Bird Man – Clyde Kessler

Years ago someone mentioned to me that women often become more and more like their mothers as they age.  I was thinking about that the other day when I was brushing my teeth for the umpteenth  time.  I can’t believe that I decided to ask Clyde what he thought about that saying as I flossed  my teeth.

My mother brushes her teeth four times a day and uses a different brush each time.  They she flosses and uses a water pick.  She says it takes her twenty minutes to do this due to her bridge work.  Of course, her determination to keep her teeth perfectly clean is also a reason for the duration of the event.

So I am standing in the kitchen with dental floss in my teeth asking Clyde is I was becoming more and more like my mother!  Well, that’s a big duh!

  1. Kendall I’m glad you share personal things about you – it’s important to know what makes an artist click.
Yes we do become more like our mothers. As much as that used to bother me, I now accept that being my mother’s daughter is an honor.
I always stayed away from oils which I realize may have been because our house/ studio didn’t have enough room.
The beauty of oils is they are like water they can move as the artist changes. Wouldn’t it be fun to ask Degas Renoir or Monet “what’s under there?”
Your work is beautiful and gives me the desire to at least get my acrylics out again.

    • Thank you! I agree! We do become more like our mothers and it is a great! I was just joking around about her dental care. The dentist I had when I was growing up always said to me that he had never seen anyone with teeth cleaner than my mom’s. I’ll bet my dentist will be saying that to me soon! It is great to work in acrylics but oils will always be my favorite medium and I am anxious to get to a new oil painting. Yes, it would be fun to ask those artists about their different layers! Thank you so much for the great compliment on my work and blog and I hope you get those acrylics out!
